RICHARD NEUTRA’S MID-CENTURY MODERN TREMAINE HOUSE (Copy)

One of Richard Neutra's masterpieces is the Tremaine House, built in Montecito, California in 1948. Its beautiful wooded setting above the Pacific Ocean is punctuated by exposed boulders and a view of distant mountains. Neutra's signature elements include horizontal ribbons of windows and dramatically-cantilevered support beams. Much of the house is constructed of concrete to protect against forest fires -- a successful strategy that enabled the beautiful structure to survive intact to the present day. [1948 Photos © J.
