DULLES AIRPORT ARCHITECTURAL MODELS
The commission for the International Airport for Washington, DC (now known as Washington Dulles International Airport) in Chantilly, VA, landed with Saarinen and Associates two years after that of the TWA Flight Center (see page 76), in 1958.
For this project, Saarinen, along with the team of Ammann & Whitney (engineering), Charles Landrum (airport consultant), and Burns & McDonnell (mechanical) sought to make a statement piece of architecture to show that Washington, DC, was firmly embracing the jet age with a soaring terminal building evocative of grandeur.
