Mobile Lounge Interior
Mobile Lounge Interior
Each of Dulles Airport's "Mobile Lounges" was like a modern building on wheels. Designed by Finnish architect Eero Saarinen as a novel way to get passengers to their planes with minimal walking, each mobile lounge weighs 76 tons and had a maximum cruising speed of 26 miles per hour. The back portion of the vehicle was designed to attach directly to the waiting plane, so passengers would walk right from the mobile lounge, through the plane door and to their seats.
