Pepsi's International-Style Headquarters in New York
The Pepsi-Cola Building is one of New York's iconic International Style landmarks. Its design, technology, and collaborative production are all qualities for which the firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill was famous: design partner Gordon Bunshaft guided the firm's New York office, and Nathalie duBois, among the few women architects of the postwar era, served as senior designer. The building has been praised for its clever siting and gemlike treatment, and especially for its sophisticated curtain wall, a nearly smooth skin of glass and aluminum spandrels.
